About Adams Company Dance

Founded by Mitzi Adams, Adams Company Dance began in the desert heat of Arizona in 1988. Upon Adams’ move to Connecticut in 1991, ACD based itself in New York City and was re-formed, performing in New York, Connecticut, Arizona, Pennsylvania, California, and Michigan. Drawing on intuition and serendipity, Adams creates works rich with imagery that concern deep matters of the heart. The benchmarks of her work are portrayed through pieces that are athletically charged, dramatically sensitive, and comedically absurd. She instructs her dancers in the ancient art of Jin Shin Jyutsu®, providing for a more harmonious process and performance. ACD has been commissioned by composer Claudia Howard Queen, Connecticut Ballet and BernierDance in Connecticut; Happendance Dance Company in Michigan; Tappan Zee Dance Group in New York; and The Movement Source Dance Company in Arizona. In addition, through their close alliance, ACD has featured works set to the inspirational music of composer, and five-time Grammy Award winner, Maria Schneider.
